BMJ Collective with special guest Alex Goodyear
BMJ Collective is our regular house band and tutors of our youth project BMJazz Katz - Jack Mac (sax and vocals) and Nick Kacal (bass). They are joined for this performance by the very popular Alex Goodyear on drums.

About the event
Jack Mac and Nick Kacal are two of the regular tutors for the BMJ Jazz Katz. In addition to tutoring, they performing regularly together and in various other ensembles and collectives.
BMJ approached them at the start of 2023 with the aims of expanding its youth jazz workshop series, which are for students of all ages and run twice a month. The aim is to teach Jazz performance and improvisation from a more organic, aural tradition - with plenty of listening and no sheet music involved.
The tutors, as BMJ Collective, also have a programme of early evening performance – each with a featured guest artist. Recent past guests have included vocalist Sarah Meek, pianist Michael Blanchfield and guitarist Chris Cobbson.
Alex Goodyear has visited the club on many past occasions and is one of the busiest musicians on the jazz scene. The projects that he is currently involved with are numerous and varied – which is a true indication of the high regard he enjoys from fellow musicians.
This exciting event both supports our ‘youth workshop programme’ and provides an opportunity to enjoying some of the best of the younger generation of musicians in South Wales.
