All of the music on the LP 'Carmen McRae Sings Monk', which was released in 1990, was composed by Thelonious Monk.  Two of the tracks were recorded live at Carmen McRae's 1988 performance at the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco.  The other tracks were recorded in a studio.

Many of Thelonious Monk's compositions started out life as instrumentals and later had words added - this was especially the case when Carmen McRae recorded them.

This first of two podcasts features the acclaimed vocalist Claire Roberts who also plays violin.  They were recorded when she performed music for this project at the 2020 wall2wall Jazz Festival in Abergavenny. The other members of the trio are Grant Russell (double bass) and George King (piano)
